Townsville Judo Competitors Excel at NQ Regional 2 in Cairns
Townsville Judo athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the recent North Queensland Regional 2 judo competition held in Cairns on Sat 9 May 2026, bringing home an impressive medal haul and valuable competition experience against some of the region’s strongest judoka.
Hosted by Cairns Judo Club, the event brought together competitors from across North Queensland, including athletes from Coral Coast Judo Club, Innisfail Judo Club and Townsville Judo Club.
With six competitors representing the club, Townsville Judo achieved exceptional results across the day, finishing with:
10 Gold Medals
2 Silver Medals
1 Bronze Medal
More importantly, the competition showcased the hard work, resilience and sportsmanship of the club’s athletes, many of whom competed in multiple divisions throughout the day. A shoutout to Erin for fastest ippon of the day!
Strong Regional Competition in North Queensland
The North Queensland Regional series continues to grow in strength and participation, providing important development opportunities for judoka across the region. Events like NQ Regional 2 give athletes the chance to test their skills in a competitive environment while building connections within the wider North Queensland judo community.
For Townsville Judo, the Cairns competition was another valuable step in the club’s continued growth as one of Queensland’s largest regional judo clubs.
Club coaches praised the team’s attitude both on and off the mats, highlighting the willingness of competitors to challenge themselves, support teammates and represent the club with humility and respect.
Building Momentum for NQ Regional 3 in Innisfail
Attention now turns to the upcoming NQ Regional 3 competition and training camp, which will be hosted by Innisfail Judo Club on 23–24 May.
The event is expected to attract athletes from across the region once again and will provide another opportunity for North Queensland judoka to gain valuable competition experience and continue preparing for future state and national events.
