Discover Judo
Step into the world of judo, a unique martial art and combat sport built around technique, movement, problem-solving and respect.
The gentle way.
Judo was founded in Japan by Jigoro Kano in 1882. Its name translates as “the gentle way”, reflecting the idea of using movement, timing and technique efficiently rather than relying on strength alone.
Judoka learn how to safely throw and control an opponent, as well as groundwork and holding techniques. Just as importantly, they learn how to fall safely, work with training partners and develop their skills progressively.
What do you actually do?
Use balance, timing and technique to bring your partner to the mat.
Learn how to control movement safely once training reaches the ground.
Breakfalls are one of the first skills every new judoka learns.
Judo does not use punches or kicks.
