2026 NQ Regional 5 Townsville Open Recap + Photos

Yesterday we welcomed judoka from across North Queensland to our new home in Wulguru for the 2026 NQ Regional 5 Townsville Open. For many, it was their first ever judo competition!
We had members and supporters travel from CORAL COAST JUDO in Mossman, Cairns Judo Club, Innisfail Judo Club Inc., Mackay Kodokan Judo Club, Mackay MMA, plus one competitor who made the huge trip all the way from Mount Isa Judo Academy.
After a whirlwind few weeks of renovating, moving and getting the new Townsville Judo dojo ready, it was such a fantastic way to celebrate finally being in our new home.
More than anything, it was awesome to see so many people come together to support each other. Competitors, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents, families and supporters all played a part in making the day what it was.
A huge thank you to everyone who travelled, helped behind the scenes, stepped onto the mat, volunteered their time or simply came along and supported the day. We really appreciate it.
Also another thank you to Townsville City Council for their support via a Community Grant which helped make the quality of the event what it was. We have been lucky enough to have Council's support two years in a row and look forward to partnering with them again in the future.
