New Kid’s Program: Judo Joeys
Coming Soon - “Judo Joeys” for 3-5 Year Olds!
We’re excited to be developing a Townsville-first program called Judo Joeys, designed especially for 3–5 year olds to explore the world of judo in a fun, play-based environment.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The aim of Judo Joeys is to introduce some basics of judo - movement, balance, coordination, teamwork and respect - through fun games and activities that help little ones build confidence and enjoy time on the mats.
Parents, expect a bit of controlled chaos! 😅 This won’t be a sit-still-and-listen kind of class - it’s designed to be all about fun (plus, anyone who can get a bunch of excited kids this young to sit still at the same time deserves a medal!). Our littlest judoka will tumble, balance, roll and play their way through the foundations of judo while burning plenty of energy and having a great time doing it! Parents/guardians will be required to stay and watch the sessions (45 mins). Participants won’t be required to wear a judogi/uniform (unless they’d prefer to suit up!).
STATUS: As at 4 October 2025, we’re awaiting the outcome of a grant application to help us get the program started. We hope to confirm a start date soon, potentially Term 1, 2026 (with a soft launch / practice runs prior to Christmas, if possible). We are taking expressions of interest via the form below.
Did you know? One of our dedicated junior coaches, Boyd McMahon (pictured), recently received a Judo Australia grant to travel to UNSW Judo Club - Australia’s largest - where he spent a week shadowing ex-Olympian Head Coach Warren Rosser. Boyd’s experience has sparked exciting new ideas for our early-years and junior programs, including Judo Joeys!
